What should you avoid after a keratin treatment?

For the first 72 hours after keratin, keep your hair dry and keep it down. After an Express Blow Out the no-wash window is 8 hours, and we recommend waiting 24.

Keratin treatment do's

  • DO wait 72 hours before shampooing.
  • DO wear your hair down at all times.
  • DO blow-dry and flat iron your hair if it gets wet during the first 72 hours.
  • DO style your hair with a blow-dryer and brush during the 72 hours if you like.
  • DO put your hair in a shower cap when bathing.
  • DO wear a silk scarf to pull your hair away from your face.
  • DO use the correct aftercare products, such as GK shampoo and conditioner or Keratin Complex Care or Keratin Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner. They are sodium chloride free and won't strip keratin from your hair.

Keratin treatment don'ts

  • DON'T wash or wet your hair for 72 hours (3 days).
  • DON'T tie your hair into a ponytail. It may leave a lasting impression.
  • DON'T wear hair clips, hair bands or bobby pins. These may leave a lasting impression.
  • DON'T place your hair behind your ears for long periods of time.
  • DON'T rest glasses on your head or use them to hold your hair back.
  • DON'T sweat.

Keratin aftercare questions

How long should I wait to wash my hair after a keratin treatment?

Wait 72 hours (3 days) before you shampoo or wet your hair. After an Express Blow Out, wait at least 8 hours. We recommend 24.

What if my hair gets wet in the first 72 hours?

Blow-dry it and flat iron it. The same goes for the first 8 hours after an Express Blow Out.

Can I brush my hair after a keratin treatment?

Yes. You can style your hair with a blow-dryer and brush during the 72 hour waiting period if you like.

What shampoo should I use after a keratin treatment?

Use GK shampoo and conditioner or Keratin Complex Care or Keratin Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner. They are sodium chloride free and won't strip keratin from your hair.

Can I shower after a keratin treatment?
