Keratin is a protein found naturally in hair, skin and nails. It's the first thing your hair loses when it gets damaged by heat, chemicals or sun. Damaged hair turns dry and porous, so it soaks up moisture from the air. The cuticle swells and you get frizz.
A smoothing treatment puts keratin back into the hair and helps seal the cuticle. Afterward your hair is more manageable and blow-drying goes faster. Daily styling takes a lot less time.

Process
What happens during a keratin treatment?
Every Keratin Complex treatment at Sweet T follows four steps, from a clarifying shampoo to a flat iron finish. Steps can vary with the service.
Clarify
Your stylist washes your hair with a deep-clarifying shampoo. It strips residue and buildup from old products and preps the cuticle so the treatment can soak in.
Apply
The smoothing treatment goes on. Hydrolyzed keratin works into the cuticle to strengthen the hair and help repair damage, while conditioning agents bring back smoothness and shine.
Blow-dry
Your stylist blow-dries the treatment into your hair.
Flat iron
A flat iron seals in the treatment for a smooth, silky, humidity-resistant finish.
Smoothing
Will keratin straighten my hair?
Keratin smoothing relaxes curl and frizz so your hair looks straighter. Your hair keeps its natural structure, so you can still wear it curly when you want.
Conventional straighteners and relaxers can break the protein bonds inside the hair so each strand reforms straight. Keratin Complex smoothing leaves those bonds alone. Talk through your goals with your stylist so you know what to expect.

Your wait to wash after keratin at Sweet T runs from 72 hours down to the same day, depending on your treatment.

- Wash and style the same day
- If your hair gets wet during the waiting period, blow-dry and flat iron it on low heat as soon as you can.
- Wear your hair down. Ponytails, clips, bobby pins and tucking hair behind your ears can leave a lasting dent.
- Don't rest glasses on your head, and don't sweat during the 72 hours.
- Waiting longer than the minimum won't hurt your results.
- Keratin Complex Volumizing Dry Shampoo Lift Powder can refresh your hair and scalp during the wait.
- Use sodium chloride-free shampoo and conditioner, such as GK or Keratin Complex, so you don't strip the keratin out.
Recommended hair care products (sodium chloride-free and sulfate-free) must be used to guarantee the best results.
